Position Title: Minister Communications
Church Phone: (864) 882-2603 ext 105
What do you do here at Saint Mark?
My primary role at Saint Mark is to make sure communication is disseminated clearly and in a timely manner. I am responsible for all digital communication through the website, bulk emails, Facebook and Twitter. I try to stay on top of interior and exterior signage. Keeping an up-to-date calendar is critical for this position. I also interface as staff person with three of our Saint Mark ministry teams: Church and Society, Library and Elderberries (our ministry for seniors).
When did you begin working at Saint Mark?
I came on staff in May of 2005.
What was your first job?
I was a waitress at the Hi Ho Restaurant in Willard, Ohio. We served breakfast, sandwiches and ice cream treats. The restaurant blew away during a tornado in 1973. I was away at college.
What was your childhood ambition?
As a child, I read the entire series of Sue Barton books. I was inspired by the fact that she was a nurse and helped people – so my first thought was to become a nurse. Later I wanted to be a hair dresser . . . then a restaurant owner.
Who inspires you?
I am inspired by Christ-followers who advocate for and stand in solidarity with people who have been relegated to the margins of society – whether because of race, religion, ethnicity, sexuality or disability. Specifically, I admire Pope Francis. To me, he embodies what it means to be a humble and devoted disciple of Jesus.
Favorite Bible story, verse or passage?
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
