Personal Information

What do you do here at Saint Mark?
As a full Elder in the United Methodist Church, I am charged with a fourfold ministry of proclaiming God’s Word, celebrating the Sacraments of Baptism and The Lord’s Supper, Ordering the life of the church and modeling the service and witness of Christ’s love and justice.

When did you begin working at Saint Mark?
I began my ministry with Saint Mark in June 2016.

What was your first job?
I grew up on a golf course in southern Greenville county in the upstate of South Carolina.  At age 10, I got my first job picking up balls on the driving range, washing them, and refilling the ball dispensing machine.  Summers were hot!

What was your childhood ambition?
From as far back as I can remember, I wanted to be a dentist.  I declared a major in engineering in my first year of college, but changed to Textile Management at Clemson University.  I worked in the textile industry for 10 years before answering God’s call to full-time ministry and attending to Erskine Seminary for my Master of Divinity degree.

Who inspires you?
My wife, Cara!  She is my best friend and she encourages me to be the best person I can be.

Favorite Bible story, verse or passage?
Romans 8:28-30 – New Living Translation “28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.”

My dear grandmother gave me 5 Bibles, including the one she gave me on the day I got married.  She so wanted me to trust in and follow Christ faithfully. I did not realize it until I went to seminary, but Grandma Davis had underlined this passage of God’s Word in each of the Bible’s she had given to me.  I have always wondered in Grandma knew one day that God would call me to be a pastor and preacher???
