Studies, Seminars, Retreats and Special Events
Faith formation is always a priority at Saint Mark and takes many forms.
Opportunities to learn and grow are available throughout the year.
There are ongoing groups, short-term Bible and book studies, and seminars on a wide variety of topics. Retreats are special times away to refocus, refresh and renew. Special events include meals with guest speakers.
Fellowship Events & Activities
ReCharge!
An important component of community is fellowship — spending time having fun together. One Wednesday evening per month, we gather in the gym for table fellowship around a catered meal, usually followed by a fun activity, guest speaker, or service project that appeals to all ages.
The (Elder) Berries
This is a fellowship ministry primarily for people 50+. Each month we offer a special activity — a sporting event, concert, dinner, theater, game night, and so much more. In addition, the Lunch Bunch meets monthly at a local restaurant.
United Women in Faith
United Women in Faith is a community of women focused on spiritual growth, fellowship, and global mission work supporting women, children, and youth.
This group is very active at Saint Mark, with six circles to choose from.
Music
Music is highly valued at Saint Mark as a critical part of worship.
If you have a gift for creating music, consider the following ensembles:
Chancel Choir
This choir leads music weekly in our Traditional Service in the sanctuary. During special liturgical seasons (Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter), the Chancel Choir, supplemented by additional singers and musicians, prepares special music and concerts, with special invitations to the larger community. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm in the music suite.
Celebrate! Praise Team
This group leads music weekly in our contemporary service with vocalists, guitars, keyboards and percussion. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings at 5:30 pm in the Saint Mark Center (gym).
Saint Mark Ringers
This group rehearses weekly in the Handbell Room (Music Suite) and performs occasionally for Traditional worship and for special celebrations.
There are opportunities for soloists and smaller ensembles to rehearse and present the Word in music and song to weekly worship, special services and special events.
Opportunities to Serve
There are plenty of opportunities to serve at Saint Mark in practical ways.
Saint Mark disciples provide assistance with the following:
- communion assistants
- ushers and greeters
- providing refreshments
- maintaining our buildings and grounds
- teaching Sunday School
- leading book studies and other small groups
- preparing and serving meals
- beautifying the interior (aesthetics)
- making prayer quilts
- participating in a prayer group
- Offering care to homebound disciples
- . . . and so much more.
Marvin's Kids
Our signature mission project is Marvin’s Kids, a ministry that provides Christmas gifts, clothing, and food for underprivileged children in Oconee County. Parents are able to “shop” for their children, selecting toys that have been purchased by our Saint Mark disciples. However, this ministry reaches beyond the Christmas holiday season, providing other kinds of services as needed.
Rise Against Hunger
Saint Mark participates in this program where an interfaith collection of people gathers to package nutritious meals that are shipped to hungry children around the world.
Seasonal Projects & Fundraisers
We collect school supplies for local children each year, support Epworth Children’s Home on Mother’s Day and in the fall, and our United Women in Faith sponsor fundraisers throughout the year to support local missions. In recent years, the UWF’s Christmas Fair has become a wildly popular and successful fundraiser.
Eleuthera Mission
Saint Mark sponsors mission trips, most notably to the Bahamian Island of Eleuthera, working in conjunction with the One Eleuthera Foundation.
These are just a few of the ways that Saint Mark disciples get involved to make a difference in the lives of the “neighbors” Jesus told us to love and serve.
Get Involved
